Students will first be read Moody Cow Meditates by Kerri Lee MacLean.
We will discuss the book and the emotions it details.
We will also discuss the use of a Mind Jar or Calm Down Bottle as a coping tool for when we have strong emotions.
Students will be placed into small groups and asked to find a Mindful Body position.
They will be guided through using the Mind Jar/Calm Down Bottle using the following script.
"We call this a Mind Jar or Calm Down Bottle. Right now the jar is clear. The lizard brain is rested and settled. But when we feel difficult emotions, things can get less clear. The glitter inside is like your emotion. When we feel strong emotions, we can see how they can cloud our minds (we will shake and observe the swirling glitter). Taking deep breaths and being mindful helps us to notice our emotions and calm down.
